Learn to leverage the power of the modifier stack in 3ds Max for 3D modeling.
It's hands down the best part of 3ds Max. By using the modifier stack, models can be generated procedurally, making the entire 3D modeling process easier and more efficient.
Check out this tutorial to see the steps used to create this space frame ceiling where you can change the section, size and spacing at ease.
Follow the steps in this tutorial:
Draw a Line in the viewport
Apply a Normalize Spline modifier, use the Segment Length to set the spacing for the truss and enable Linear Segments.
Apply Sweep modifier and choose the section for the truss.
Apply Edit Patch modifier (or Tesselate modifier) to connect all the vertices.
Apply a Lattice Modifier and set the size for the struts and joints.
Go down to the line and check Show end results toggle. Move the vertices, add vertices and copy the spline to make a truss in the size and shape you want.
You can save this file and reuse it in future projects.
