MUCH OF THE time a professional photographer will be looking to tone down a portrait a little, to make it more complimentary perhaps by diallingback a little on the resolution and maybe even adding a degree of soft focus to the mix so that the inevitable wrinkles and minor blemishes that most of us carry become a little less noticeable. There are also times, however, whenyou might want to achieve precisely the opposite effect, and to add so muchdetail that you can see every individual pore of the skin and hair in the head. Say hello then to the look known as hyper reality, an approach that can really lift a shot when you’re going for something powerful and gritty that serves to emphasise the strength of character of the person in front of your lens.
