Step-by-step guide on how to update Ford SYNC to the latest version. You can do it by yourself and save yourself a trip to the Ford dealership paying for the service.

All you need is a freshly formatted 64G USB drive. If you have a SYNC 2 software then you will have to format USB as FAT32, but if you have SYNC 3 or newer than you will format at exFAT.

Once that is done visit Ford website (SYNC and Navigation updates) and enter your vehicle serial number in the empty field. You will see if your SYNC has outstanding updates and which version of SYNC you have. Download the update, extract files and copy the files to the USB drive.

Go back to your vehicle and start it. Insert the USB drive into the USB slot and the update will start. This will take around 30 minutes. Vehicle has to be running during the installation process. Your screen will turn on / off couple of times and once done you will get a message Installation Completed.

Now go back to your computer to confirm the update. Upload the file that was generated during the install from the USB to Ford website and search your serial number again. Everything should be up to date.

Thanks for watching.
