In this episode of HELGA, host Helga Davis speaks with sociologist Tricia Rose, a pioneering scholar in the field of hip-hop. She published her book first book in 1994, "Black Noise," which is now a seminal text in her field. She is the Chancellor's Professor of Africana Studies at Brown University, a co-host with Cornel West of “The Tight Rope” podcast, and Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America.
In their conversation, Rose discusses how she balances her love of the early days of hip-hop with the global profit powerhouse it has become. She also discusses how essential it is to build safe, stable communities at a time when everything is being done to isolate and separate us.
