Through its history the Russian language has borrowed many words both from the West and from the East. While words of Latin, German, French, or English origin are widely discussed, numerous words borrowed from Turcic languages (Tatar, Turkish, etc.) are less known and often wouldn't be considered as borrowed words even by native speakers.
