Friends, Here are the Top 5 Fascinating Facts about the Universe (Space Facts) that will blow your mind !
Fact no. 1. Our universe is expanding faster than the speed of light
Yes, you heard it right. Don't worry, it's not going to break rules of Physics. You should not consider this cosmic expansion as something moving through space faster than the speed of light. Actually it is the empty space itself that expands. Because of this expansion, galaxies are moving away from each other.
Not only this, they are rushing away from each other at increasing rates. In fact, it is believed that because of this ever increasing expansion of the space, the universe might end in a Big Rip. At this point everything down to the atoms would be ripped apart.

Fact no. 2. 95% of the universe is invisible
Surprisingly, we are aware of only about 5% of the universe, rest is hidden.
It has been estimated that roughly 68% of the Universe is dark energy. And dark matter makes up about 27%. Hence dark energy and dark matter combined make up approx 95% of the universe that we cannot perceive. The rest 5% includes everything we see in the form of galaxies, stars, planets, you and me.

Fact no.3. Gamma-ray bursts can release more energy in 10 seconds than our sun will in its entire life
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are immensely energetic explosions that have been observed in distant Galaxies. They are the most energetic and luminous electromagnetic events since the Big Bang. Gamma Ray Bursts can last from ten milliseconds to several hours. Gamma ray bursts may be of different types. Some are thought to form, when a massive star implodes to form a neutron star or a black hole. While others form, when two neutron stars collide to merge together.

Fact no.4. Scientists have found vast amounts of water in space
If you think our Earth is the only place where we can find water, then you are wrong.
You will be surprised to know that the largest reservoir of water ever discovered in the universe, surrounds a black hole. This black hole is nearly 12 billion light years away from us.
The water is present in the form of water vapor, which is equivalent of 140 trillion times the volume of water in the oceans of Earth.

Fact no.5. Our universe is flat
The shape of the universe is decided by the struggle between the rate of expansion of the universe and the pull of gravity.
If the density of the universe is greater than a particular critical number, the universe would be "closed" shaped like the surface of a sphere. This implies that the universe is not infinite but has no end. If this is the case then the universe will stop expanding eventually and start collapsing in on itself. This collapsing event is popularly known as the "Big Crunch".
The shape of the universe is "open" if the density of the universe is less than the critical density value. This open shape would be similar to the surface of a saddle. If this is the case, then the universe is unbounded. So it will continue to expand forever.
But if the density of the universe perfectly matches the critical density, the geometry of the universe will be "flat" like a piece of paper. In this case, the universe has no bounds and will expand forever.
But it has been estimated that after an infinite amount of time the rate of expansion of the universe will gradually approach zero.
Recent measurements made by scientists suggest that the universe is actually "flat".
