🏀 The 3D-printed basketball! 🖨️✨
‼️ DISCLAIMER: I wouldn't use nylon; the ball didn't break, but it definitely will at some point.
💡 I would use an elastomer instead of plastic.
Thanks: @JLC3DP
🔬 The problem: A client wanted a 3D-printed airless basketball.
💸 The challenge: The original cost $2,500, so we tried making replicas with PLA.
😓 The drawback: PLA worked well in small versions, but in full-size versions, it broke when chopped.
🛠️ The next test: Use TPU, a more flexible material.
😩 The new problem: Although it looked amazing, TPU isn't elastic, and the ball barely bounced.
📏 The ultimate solution:
🔎 I discovered the original is manufactured using SLS technology.
🔗 JLC3D also had it, so we uploaded the file and paid $200 for printing and shipping.
✨ The result? This marvel arrived from China. 🏀🔥
