Last week, shocking news emerged from Karnataka's Hassan constituency as over 2,900 sex videos, allegedly recorded by MP Prajwal Revanna, surfaced on pen drives. Prajwal, a JD(S) leader from a prominent political family, is the joint BJP-JD(S) candidate for the recent Lok Sabha elections. The scandal has ignited a political firestorm, with accusations flying between Congress and BJP. But this is not a one time occurence. Last year, a report found that there were as many as 134 MPs and MLAs across India who were implicated in cases involving crimes against women. Why is it that the political parties harp so much about women safety and yet so many of such accused candidates are in power? Do parties care less about women safety and more about political power?
