You may wonder why the layer mask and not just the magic wand. I get it. I use layer masks because it is easy to identify, in this case, white that was been selected from inside the design. The other reason is because the layer mask can be used with different adjustments within the image menu. Experimenting with these over time allows you to see what is happening to the image at a pixel level. Only through this journey to we begin to understand all the power within photoshop.
