1. Widen Your Stance and Lower Your Center of Gravity
Technique: Spread your feet shoulder-width apart or wider and bend your knees slightly. This lowers your center of gravity, making it harder for the attacker to take you down.
Benefit: A stable, low stance improves your balance and makes it more difficult for the attacker to manipulate your body.
2. Use Your Hips to Resist
Technique: If the attacker is trying to lift or push you, thrust your hips forward while pulling your upper body back. This counters their attempt to move you and helps you regain control.
Benefit: Engaging your hips gives you more power and leverage, making it harder for the attacker to take you down.
3. Frame with Your Arms
Technique: Use your arms to create frames against the attacker’s body, especially around their neck, shoulders, or hips. Push against them to maintain distance and prevent them from closing in on you.
Benefit: Framing helps you control the attacker’s movement and can prevent them from gaining a dominant position.
4. Strike to Disrupt Their Balance
Technique: Aim for quick, effective strikes to vulnerable areas like the eyes, throat, or groin. This can disrupt their balance and force them to reconsider their attack.
Benefit: Striking these areas can create an opportunity to escape or counterattack, reducing the risk of being taken down.
5. Use Lateral Movement
Technique: Move side-to-side rather than backward. Lateral movement helps you avoid being pushed straight back and can also put you in a better position to counterattack.
Benefit: Lateral movement is less predictable and can make it harder for the attacker to maintain their grip or momentum.
6. Control Their Head
Technique: If the attacker is trying to take you down by grabbing your legs or waist, control their head by pushing it down or to the side. Where the head goes, the body follows, so this can disrupt their balance.
Benefit: Controlling the head helps you neutralize their attack and can put you in a better position to escape.
7. Sprawl Technique
Technique: If the attacker shoots for a double-leg takedown or similar move, sprawl by throwing your legs back and dropping your hips to the ground while pushing your upper body onto the attacker’s back.
Benefit: Sprawling forces the attacker to bear your weight, making it difficult for them to complete the takedown and giving you an opportunity to escape or counter.
8. Stay Calm and Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Mindset: Stay calm and focused. Look for opportunities to escape, use obstacles, or position yourself advantageously.
Benefit: Maintaining situational awareness helps you make quick, effective decisions and reduces the chance of being caught off guard.
Conclusion:
By applying these techniques, you can improve your chances of staying on your feet and preventing an attacker from taking you to the ground. Remember, the goal is to maintain balance, disrupt the attacker’s attempts, and create opportunities to escape or counterattack.
