KEY LEARNING OBJECTIVES OF THIS WEBINAR INCLUDE:
• To learn that Vertebral Fracture Assessment (VFA), using DXA, has been proposed as an
alternative approach for the identification of vertebral fractures.
• To know that in comparison with conventional radiographs, DXA-VFA has several distinct
advantages including lower cost, lower radiation exposure, and greater convenience for patients.
• To understand that it is advocated to perform DXA-VFA in all patients visiting a FLS:
a) To detect sub-clinical vertebral fractures, which may modify risk category and thus
initiation or type and duration of therapy;
b) To provide a baseline assessment, based on which later incident vertebral fractures
can be discriminated from prevalent fractures.
• To learn and discuss about the recent IOF position paper: “Vertebral fracture: epidemiology, impact
and use of DXA vertebral fracture assessment in fracture liaison services”. Osteoporosis Int. 2021
Mar;32(3):399-411.
