What is Protocol and Port Numbers

A protocol is a set of rules and guidelines for communicating data.

Port numbers are used to differentiate between different services or applications running on a device

Port numbers range from 0 to 65535
The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) categorizes ports into three ranges:
Well-known ports (0-1023)
Registered ports (1024-49151)
Dynamic or private ports (49152-65535)
