What is retrograde ejaculation? Certified Pelvic Health Specialist and Licensed Occupational Therapist, Lainie Givens, explains. 🤓💦💦

Retrograde ejaculation occurs when semen goes up into the bladder instead of down and out the penis.
If you have retrograde ejaculation, you may experience: little ejaculate during climax, dry orgasms, cloudy urine, or male infertility.

So what causes retrograde ejaculation? Surgeries that remove or potentially injure the internal urethral sphincter muscle of the bladder. For example prostatectomy, colorectal, testicular, and some spinal surgeries. Certain neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, or Parkinson’s disease. Medications for enlarged prostate like Flomax and some blood pressure and anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications.

Even though this may sound alarming, retrograde ejaculation is not a serious medical issue and does not cause any physical harm to your bladder or your penis. You can still achieve an erection or experience orgasm.
