If you want your training to work, it has to be consistent. If you want it to be consistent, then it needs to be sustainable and a BIG part of sustainability is making sure your program is not impractically difficult. Training ought to be challenging enough to keep you motivated, to be productive, and to give a sense of accomplishment, but many people make the mistake of shooting for overly ambitious programs that don’t reflect their capacity for recovery. Stress, responsibilities, lack of sleep, and many other factors contributing to just how much you can recover from. You need to account for all of your stressors when determining a practical training program. Again… you don’t want to train too easy, but you don’t want every workout to crush you and leave you dreading the next. Adjust your volume, intensity, and exercise selection to make your training sustainable longterm.
