In this Completionist Mutant Year Zero Walkthrough, we attempt to beat Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden on the Very Hard difficulty setting with Iron Mutant mode turned on. In this walkthrough, we control a group of mutant Stalkers from the Ark who venture out into the zone in search of valuable scrap, weapon parts and artifacts to keep the Ark running and its inhabitants alive. During their journey through the post-apocalyptic wasteland, our protagonists encounter a variety of enemies and can engage them in tactical turn-based combat. Stealth plays a large role in Mutant Year Zero, as it is often possible to sneakily take out isolated enemies before attacking the main group of foes. By staying hidden, we can also frequently ambush our opponents and earn the advantage of going first in combat.
This Mutant Year Zero Walkthrough will be completed on Very Hard difficulty, the hardest difficulty setting in Mutant Year Zero. On Very Hard difficulty, enemies deal more damage, our characters do not regenerate their health and our skills and abilities are locked behind cooldowns that can only be reset by taking out more enemies. To further increase the challenge, we also play with Iron Mutant mode turned, making all of our decisions permanent. Iron Mutant mode prevents us from reverting back to an earlier save file if things go wrong, so if we mess up, we will have to live with the consequences. Paired together, Very Hard difficulty and Iron Mutant mode provide by far the toughest challenge in Mutant Year Zero – but they also offer the most intense gameplay experience.
Since this is a completionist walkthrough of Mutant Year Zero on Very Hard Iron Mutant difficulty, we will also focus on unlocking almost all achievements in the game. Mutant Year Zero offers a total of 36 achievements and with the exception of only two, all of them can be unlocked during one single playthrough. The only achievements that are mutually exclusive are the "QA have suffered" achievement for finishing the game on Iron Mutant mode on the Very Hard difficulty without losing a squad member and the "Tastes like Chicken" achievement for killing one of our own squad members using one of Bormin's special mutation abilities. A choice between the two achievements will have to take place at some point, but apart from that, all other achievements will be completed and unlocked.
Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a tactical turn-based action-adventure game with a focus on stealth and strategy. It was developed by the Swedish studio The Bearded Ladies, published by Funcom, and released in 2018. In Mutant Year Zero, we control a group of Mutant characters, all with their own individual specializiations and explore the zone, the post-apocalyptic wasteland surrounding the Mutants' home base, the so-called Ark. The game features plenty of turn-based combat that was inspired by the XCOM series but puts its own twist on things: Very often, enemies can be avoided altogether by sneaking by them and with a broad variety of weapons, outfits, items and useful mutations, we have a lot of options to engage our enemies and to decide combat encounters in our favor.
All Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden gameplay for this Mutant Year Zero Walkthrough on Very Hard Iron Mutant difficulty was recorded on PC in 1440p.
