The Molinette San-Giovanni-Battista hospital in Turin has met the increasing medical requirements with a decisive high-tech strategy. The goal: achieving a consistently high ventilation quality across all stations. This will improve both the treatment standard in the clinic as well as the efficiency of processes.

Professor Marco Ranieri is a Professor of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the University of Turin and director of the anaesthesiology and intensive care departments at San Giovanni Battista. Ranieri is a strong advocate of modernisations. Especially in a time of strong cost pressure, clinics must make investments in technology to increase the treatment standards as well as to improve the processes. Technology is not a sure-fire success; it must be understood and accessible for all and cannot require comprehensive training every time. Amongst others, the professor admires Dräger for the reliability and dependability of the products and their simple usability - for experts as well as newcomers. Ranieri: „I am impressed by how the company is able to further develop its products from a technological standpoint and continually provide solutions that always take the results of current research into consideration."

In the opinion of Dr. Giulio Rosboch, anaesthesiologist in the department of anaesthesiology and reanimation, among others, Dräger distinguishes itself from the competition through the user friendliness of the devices and their performance, which are reflected in the identical ventilation typology in the operating room and in intensive care. The consistent ventilation quality in the operating room and in the intensive care unit has, according to him, helped Molinette hospital to handle the increasing complexity of the procedures. Amongst others, Rosboch ascribes a key role in this to the Zeus anaesthesia system. Zeus also helps the clinic to conserve anaesthetic gases, with savings of about 10,000 EUR per year, per device.

Paola Freda, engineer and director of medical technology at Molinette, emphasises the high level of the technical equipment at the institution. For this medical engineer, there are multiple demands aside from medical criteria when it comes to assessing technology during the procurement phase: „The safety, the technical support by the manufacturer and a high availability, that is, a high MTBF - mean time between failures. When ever it comes to looking at costs, the quality also has to be taken into consideration: We cannot forget that this is work equipment, that is, instruments that are in the hands of the clinic staff every day, the doctors, the nurses who rely very heavily on the quality and the safety of the performance. You cannot buy this by the kilo, you have to be discerning." Paola Freda gives high marks for the simple usability of the equipment, according to an Italian saying: „It has to be made for multiple hands - that is, be multi-professional."
