On this day in 1937, SS President Hoover was bombed by Chinese aircraft. Here is a British Movietone report showing SS President Hoover tossed by storms onto a reef off the island of Formosa.
SS "President Hoover". The $8,000,000 liner, once bombed by the Japanese, runs into more trouble after having been tossed by storms onto a reef off the island of Formosa. The boats are lowered and the passengers and crew rowed to a small island nearby. All are saved and skeleton crew remains aboard helping to salvage the liner.
