The Crimean Tatar people were formed from 28 nations and ethnic groups - the Polovtsians, Kipchaks, Cimmerians, Taurians, Goths, Seljuks, Scythians, and many others who lived in these territories. By the 14th century, an independent European state was created on the territory of the Crimean Peninsula and the southern parts of Ukraine called the Crimean Khanate, which progressed for 350 years.
However, in 1783, the Russian Empire first occupied Crimea and destroyed the independence of the Crimean Khanate. In 2014, Crimea was occupied for the second time when it was part of the Ukrainian state, where in 1991 the Crimean Tatar people in Crimea voted for territorial integrity with Ukraine, including the Crimean Peninsula.
