‘Ain’t Real’ most certainly became one of the scene’s most authentic hands-up cuts of the year, and now with a new edition club mix, Be Yourself Music hot property Melsen heralds another banger clubbers will be clamouring for. The original’s piano-hammering joy and fierce diva streak had Bingo Players, Oliver Heldens, Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Kiss FM’s Freejak rushing to get a piece of the action. 2022’s second edition promises a second wave of similar suitors; the beats are Low Steppa-style beefier, the keys sound meaner, the contours sleeker, and a synth breakdown shimmers like a catwalk queen caught in a camera flash.
Following his hype run for Be Yourself Music over the last year laying down a marker for “music that lifts your spirits and gives you a positive vibe”, Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Nicky Romero, R3hab, David Guetta, Hardwell, Alesso and Martin Garrix have all come calling for Melsen’s house mantra giving the dancing public what they want. Recognised with takeovers of Beatport’s House and main charts, the iTunes USA Dance chart and DMC’s Buzz Chart, Melsen has said that “by far the most important thing I’ve learned is that you just need to go into your studio and mess around”. Far from playing the fool, here he unlocks a decisive drive to make the second instalment as essential as the first through his bread and butter ingredients of bass and funk.
