The quality of video surveillance is a complex concept, and in relation to cameras it consists of:
resolution;
sensitivity (i.e., the ability to shoot in lowlight or without it);
reliability;
proper placement of cameras, etc.
Today we will consider only the first paragraph (resolution) with "other things being equal."

Is it true that 4 megapixel camera is always better than 2 megapixel? Is it true that for more informative video surveillance you only need to spend more money for cameras with a higher resolution? In this video, we consider the resolution of the cameras in conjunction with the used lens and, as a result, the resolution or pixel density, which defines the informative component of the complex concept of "video quality".

How to choose a camera for the specific task? How to calculate the required pixel density, choose the distance and lenses? These and other theoretical questions, as well as practical justification and real video from different surveillance cameras can be found in this video.
