Configure Gmail to use the Delete Key for Deleting Email Threads
For many of us, we like to use the delete key on our keyboard rather than having to use the mouse to click on a trash can icon or red X. In Gmail, you can't use the delete key at all to delete any emails. You can enable the keyboard shortcuts from the settings, but you are stuck with using Shift+3 (or #) to delete emails. You can edit the Gmail shortcuts but not for the delete function
There is a Chrome plugin\extension that will let you assign custom keys to the delete option so you can use the delete key to delete an email or a message in an email thread. But if you want to delete emails from your main email listing, you are stuck with the trash can icon or the Shift-3 keyboard shortcut.
