Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a discipline that centers on the interconnectedness and interplay between the different structures of the body. This informs the team-based, multimodal approach to pelvic pain which is central to our treatment philosophy. Our physiatrists go beyond just prescribing medication and apply any tools which may be necessary to treat every aspect of pelvic pain. These include lifestyle approaches like diet and exercise as well as advanced modalities such as outpatient ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and trigger point injections.

Dr. Shrikhande is the Chief Medical Officer of Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine. She distilled her global expertise into a minimally invasive, cutting-edge approach to the treatment of pelvic pain and pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. With an extensive background in mainstream clinical medicine, she also makes use of many alternatives, holistic and homeopathic approaches. She has published peer-reviewed articles on the treatment of muscle pain in academic journals and works closely with renowned pelvic pain gynecologists and urologists.

At Pelvic Rehabilitation Medicine, our pelvic pain specialists provide a functional, rehab approach to pelvic pain. When you visit one of our offices, you spend an hour with your doctor reviewing in detail your medical history and symptoms. Then, we perform an internal exam (no speculum) to evaluate your nerves and muscles. Together, we'll discuss an individual treatment plan that gets to the root cause of your pain and helps you to feel better. The best part: you can begin treatment the same day!

At PRM, our mission is to decrease the time patients are suffering from pelvic pain symptoms.

Physiatry is otherwise known as a rehabilitation doctor or physical medicine and rehab doctor, and we are non-operative MD/DOs. Our physiatrists focus only on the pelvis. So they are specialists in the nerves, muscles, and joints of the pelvis only. So all day, every day, we see chronic pelvic pain and the multiple etiologies and diagnosis that come along with pelvic pain.

What we offer our pelvic pain patients is a multimodal treatment approach. We are doing outpatient ultrasound guided peripheral nerve blocks and trigger points, and they also will see pelvic floor physical therapy once a week. And they'll also be part of our behavioral health program, either as a one-on-one with a behavioral health specialist or one of our group courses to help really retrain their central nervous system.

The multimodal approach is the key component because many patients prior to coming to us have tried different things in piecemeal, whether it be certain medications or physical therapy or behavioral health or physiatry with outpatient ultrasound guided procedures, but it doesn't work as well. And the key is to do it all at once in a comprehensive program.
