Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus was an outstanding figure even by the standards of antiquity. Ironically, he is much less famous than Hannibal, who was defeated by him. After the end of the Second Punic War, Scipio, who received the African agnomen, was the most influential man in the Roman Republic, but was forced to end his life in exile due to the intrigues of political enemies.
