Danielle Smith became the new UCP leader and premier-designate of Alberta after enchanting the malcontent members of the ruling party who helped take outgoing Premier Jason Kenney down.
On Thursday, Smith pulled in 53.8 per cent of the vote in the final and sixth round, making her only the second leader of the United Conservative Party since it was formed in 2017, and the seventh premier since Ralph Klein took the levers of power 16 years ago.
