Fundamental Group of Circle and the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra
In this video, we compute the simplest non-trivial example of a fundamental group, that of the circle. We do this by using the Galois action on its cover by the real numbers. we then use this to prove the fundamental theorem of algebra using the fact that the space of non-zero complex numbers is homotopic to the circle.
