This is a short video and explanation of the very basic and inexpensive set of tools required to do simple printed circuit board (pcb) repairs for the Engineer, Technologist, Technician, Tradesperson, or Hobbyist.
I will post additional videos on soldering, electronic assembly, and basic printed circuit board repairs.

Below is the basic and inexpensive tool list:

25w to 40w soldering iron with pencil point and chisel tips (35w would be the best choice for the first time user)
Soldering iron holder
Sponge for cleaning the soldering iron tip
60/40 flux core solder 0.8mm (0.032”)
Solder sucker/extractor/pull
Solder wick 0.1”
Rubbing Alcohol 90% or better used to clean flux off printed circuit boards
Tooth brush
Electrical tape CSA or ULC approved
Small roll of masking tape to hold small parts on the printed circuit board while soldering
Stand to hold small printed circuit boards
Magnifying glass
Fine steel wool (0000)
Plumbing acid flux – Home Hardware #1139-209L Masters Solder Paste 57g Cat No. SP057C or Kester Acid Paste Flux SP-30 50g. This will be used to help clean the soldering iron tips and will never be used on a printed circuit board as it is corrosive.
Stainless steel scouring pad
Small set of jewellers’ screwdrivers both slotted and Philips
Small side cutters
Small needle nose pliers
Wire stripper
Tweezers
