Press Statement: Lainey Armistead Asks SCOTUS to Protect Female Athletes

As a former captain of the women's soccer team at West Virginia State University, Lainey Armistead knows the joys of competing in sports. But when males who identify as females compete in women's sports, they steal opportunities from women to compete and win.
West Virginia passed its women's sports law to protect fairness and safety for women and girls in sports. Unfortunately, the American Civil Liberties Union challenged the law in court. After a federal district court ruled in favor of the law, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed part of that decision and hindered West Virginia from protecting fairness in women's sports. So, in July 2024, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced that his office and Lainey Armistead, who is represented by ADF, will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case.
