China unveils mobile drone fighting weapon to rival Germany's Rheinmetall Skynex
At Airshow China 2024, Chinese defense giant NORINCO (North Industries Group Corporation Limited) unveiled a new anti-drone weapon system.
This system combines high detection, targeting and firepower capabilities on a highly mobile tactical platform.
This anti-drone vehicle uses the DongFeng Mengshi 6X6 vehicle which is paired with a 30 mm caliber automatic cannon and short-range anti-aircraft missiles.
The main feature of the system is its advanced detection and targeting suite. The vehicle is equipped with a weapon station with optical and radar systems. This allows for precise and real-time detection, tracking and engagement of air targets.
Not only used to neutralize drones, other air threats such as low-flying planes and helicopters can also be paralyzed.
The system is operated by two personnel, a driver and a weapons operator. They sit in a cabin protected from assault rifle bullets and artillery shell fragments.
The design and capabilities of China's mobile air defense system make it a direct competitor to Germany's Rheinmetall Skynex 35 mm mounted on the RMMV HX 6X6 truck.
