It is a little-known group that plays a big role. When hand crews and air resources work to put out the flames of a wildfire, there are also peace officers on the ground investigating how the fire started. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Law Enforcement personnel, colloquially referred to as Cal Fire Police, are tasked with responding to the scene of a wildfire to figure out a cause.
