Peru cycle tour #18. We started the day in the high mountain village of Llipa and back to the local family for breakfast which was another great experience.
Then back on the bikes for a huge descent deep into the canyon and following the river to our lowest altitude on this trip at 1300m.
Here the terrain was dry, baron and very warm, just like a desert.
We ate lunch in an abandoned village of Canon before starting to climb again. Here we found a perfect new tarmac road (106) and with tail winds we were nearly pushed up through a gorge with dramatic cliffs on either side.
We finished the day back at an altitude of 2200m at a natural warm spring. Here we could take a bath at 40 degrees that felt like heaven for our tired muscles. We were given permission to camp here and tomorrow we continue the climb to a town called Cajatambo. We will continue climbing over the next few days to the highest altitude on this trip of 4800m.
