Peru cycle tour #13.
We started the day at our Hostel in Huari. The town had a festival atmosphere with a band playing in the town square and lots of official looking people. We didn’t find out exactly what was going on because not many people here speak English but it was an experience to see.
We then got our bikes and gear from inside the shop and got on the road to Chavin.
We were not sure if we would make it to Chavin today because we were unsure of the road conditions. But this time it actually was a road and we cycled with ease for the first time in Peru. The road was in a valley with impressive tall cliffs on either side.
We made it to San Marcos for lunch and Chavin by late afternoon. We had planned ahead and booked and highly rated hotel right on the Plaza de Armas. At first sight it looked cosy but then we discovered nothing really worked and the owner was unable to fix it. After taking a cup of tea and waiting the problem still not resolved so we decided to change hotel so we could go in the shower.
Tomorrow we will take a resting day (that we all need) here and visit some of the archeological sites in this town.
