Michigan School District Drove a Wedge Between Parents and Their Daughter

The district went so far as to alter documents before giving them to the Meads to hide the fact that the school was using a different name and male pronouns for their daughter. It wasn’t until an employee inadvertently sent home a document using the new name and incorrect pronouns that the Meads discovered what had been occurring.
The school district’s actions drove a wedge between the Meads and their daughter, causing her to even question whether her parents loved her. They confused a young girl who needed support from her parents, not encouragement to identify as a different gender.
In December 2023, Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys filed a lawsuit on the Meads’ behalf. Parents have the right and responsibility to direct the upbringing and education of their children, and we must hold school officials accountable when they try to take that away.
