Film Score Exercise #8 - Crook Point Bascule Bridge
This one is just a quickly slapped together cut of some drone footage i took of the old Crook Point Bascule Bridge, which is a well known and well-loved landmark in Providence, RI. I started at the E. Providence side of the Seekonk river, and followed the course of the bridge over to Providence, and then right to the entrance of the old train tunnel. Bonus footage at the end of tiny Pancake Island!
This one was my first time using DaVinci Resolve for editing, color grading, audio editing and rendering. After only a few days using it, i'm hooked! I'm probably going to switch from FCPX for most of my video work now. Seriously, this footage was shot on a very gray, colorless, ugly day, and i was able to make it look pretty decent, just using Resolve's color tools.
The 'soundtrack' was mostly an afterthought, tossed together in Ableton Live using mostly Splice samples. So it's not really my best work, but it only took 15-20 min to 'compose' and record. Mainly i was using it to give me practice cutting on action.
I'm working on a series of these, just as practice exercises. I try to shoot some footage, then bring it home, edit it and compose and record a score to go with it, as quickly as possible. Hopefully with practice, these will get better!
