This was a fun one! Let's see if i can break it down:

Drone footage shot of the reservoir and mangled in FCPX to get the 16mm film approximate look, including adding an old SMPTE Universal leader to the head.
Additional "VHS" layer of color correction, vhs static/noise overlay.

Sound Design:

Music was 'composed' really quickly in Ableton Note on my iPad, then opened in Ableton Live 11 on my desktop. finishing touches were added including UAD Studer Tape emulator and UAD Hitsville Reverb Chamber. Finished track was exported 24 bit AIFF 48Khz

Music track then opened in Audacity, where it was downsampled to 22khz, then a rough "AM Radio" eq curve added to roll off below 100 and above 5khz.

2 new tracks added in Audacity. a generated pink noise and generated 60hz 'electrical hum', which are noticeable mostly at the beginning and end, before the music.

Finally the finished sound track was exported as an 8-bit unsigned PCM WAV file for that extra layer of grime. (i think i should probably have also done some serious broadcast quality over-compression too. I'll try that next time!)

Then everything was put back into FCPX where i tweaked the edit a bit, and added the outro logo, etc.

These are a lot of fun to make! They usually only take me a couple of hours tops.

I'm working on a series of these, just as practice exercises. I try to shoot some footage, then bring it home, edit it and compose and record a score to go with it, as quickly as possible. Hopefully with practice, these will get better!
